Sending a new message

In the Thunderbird toolbar, click the Write button. The Write window opens.

In the toolbox, type the email address you want to send the message to.

In the Subject box, type the subject of your message.

Type your message in the message pane.

If HTML-formatting of composed text is permissible in account settings, you can modify the look of your message with Thunderbird’s word-processing utilities in the Formatting Bar above the message pane. Smiles included!

Click the Send button.

Receiving messages

By default, every time you open the app, Thunderbird checks new messages, this app is running when it automatically checks again every 10 minutes. This behavior can be optimized for both tasks

• Click Retest
• Click Done.
• If you are prompted with a security warning select permanently store this exception. Then click Confirm Security Exception.

You should now be able to send and receive mail after a few seconds of verification. There are several points to be made here. Initially, as always, back up everything before you upgrade. You should be regularly backing up everything anyway, but do an extra backup just before you do the upgrade.
